It's What's for Dessert

We got to hang out with Wayne's younger step brothers this weekend. We played video games, ate pizzza, you know boy stuff, but the older one of them also made and introduced me to a new very tasty dessert! AUSTRIAN PUFF PANCAKES

Essentially, it's a pancake, with apple sauce on top. I don't have the exact recipe, and I;m not good without recipes, so who knows if I'll ever be able to make it as good as this one was again, but I was able to find one that I think comes really close to the one he used, on another blog (haha). They are very good, especially if you like pancakes!!

Alyeska

Somehow on this warm weekend we ended up at Alyeska for the day to make an attempt at snowboarding. In my 25 years here in Alaska I am ashamed to say that this was my first "real" attempt at snowboarding. Don't judge me, I'm a "sit on your butt and sled down the hill" kind of girl......well until this weekend.

I thought with the weather being not that great that it would be fairly empty, but to my surprise a lot of people had the same idea I guess, or either they were all die hard skiers and snowboarders, which is also probably not too far fetched. We rented gear (helmets, snowboards, boots) from Alyeska, which after all was said and done may have been a better idea to use Sports Authority, seeing as we spent a good amount of money on the gear through Alyeska. Which their gear was not bad, just maybe overpriced, but I guess I won't know until I rent from Sports Authority.

Either way, my first "real" snowboarding experience was a success! I made it all the way down the beginner hill by the end of my day (3:00 PM) while carving and not falling!!! I feel accomplished, mainly because I, and everyone snowboarding around me, made it through the day with all of their limbs in place. Yay me!

January - Alyeska - Girdwood - Alaska  - Snow - And...

 -  Rain - Wait? Rain? In January?  Yes. True story.

Floating???

Hi, which way is the Develop Mad Skills Class? Oh, that way? Thanks!

Wayne and some of the snow that hadn't had it's chance to melt and soak his gear yet.

And this was with poor conditions, I don't know if I wanna see this place on a good condition day.

I have proof.

Who says you can't use the tripod in the car?

Brunch from the cafe below the Sitzmark!! I highly recommend their BLT and Omelette!  MMmmmm

Say Hello to DJ Mannie Mo

I've always had a love for the art of DJing. I just recently downloaded a very simple DJing software for my computer, and I've been having a lot of fun playing with it. I consider it pure hobby, nothing professional. I just have a lot of fun doing it. I have only had the software for a month or two so I'm still getting used to it and all the things I can do with it. I finally got comfortable enough to record a short mix of some of my favorites. So everyone, I would like you to meet DJ Mannie Mo!!!!

It's What's for Dinner

My sister Scooter invited me over to hang out with her last night. She asked if I was hungry, and of course I said yes. She said, "Well, I made tacos and have left over meat, do you want nachos?" I said, "Sure." So she pulls out all of the ingredients, which were the basic ground beef, cheese and to my surprise also included Nacho Cheese Doritos instead of regular tortilla chips.

My first inside the box reaction was, "Ummmm...do you have any other chips???" She said, "I know what you're thinking, but trust me, you'll like it! After all, they ARE NACHO CHEESE Doritos." Me being hungry and not in the mood to argue just went with it, and wow! I don't know if I want to go back to tortilla chip nachos again! I am normally very plain Jane when it comes to food, I don't like a lot of extras, add ons or crazy flavors, but this one is worth trying. I highly recommend everyone step outside of the normal food box and try Nacho Cheese Doritos Nachos!

Races: Frosty Bottom 50/25 2013 Anchorage, Alaska

Today I was questioning my sanity. I decided to do the Frosty Bottom 50/25 in Anchorage two months ago, and today was race day. The temperature at about 30 degrees Fahrenheit wasn't nearly as cold as I wanted it to be. I've found through my past couple months of training that the colder it is, the more I don't want to stop for a break. So the 30 degrees was a disappointment in a way. The race started at the Kincaid Chalet, ended at Hilltop Ski Area and you could bike, ski or run 25 or 50 miles. I enjoyed my moment of glory when I realized I had finished in 4 hours and 20 minutes, but then quickly remembered that there were people even crazier than me who were turning around and running another 25 miles back to Kincaid! So while I would love to brag about finishing in 4 hours and 11 minutes, when I expected to finish in 5 hours or more, I think the real credit should be given to the people who ran 50 miles today. Bravo!

Luckily, I was able to wear headphones, well they were earmuffs that doubled as headphones, which was an awesome Christmas present from my brother a few years back. They saved me from concentrating on the cold and the pain, and came in very handy. I was able to time myself this way also. I had about four 1-1 1/2 mixes, so I just thought of the race in increments of mixes. As silly as that sounds, I think it made time go by much faster. I also tried to run and synchronize my breathing to the beat. Don't laugh! I think it worked!! I also found myself overdressed and wanting to shed layers, I could have done without a few things, but in the end I guess it may have been better to be overdressed than under dressed.

This was the farthest run I have ever done. I was told that the last five miles are all mental anyway, so before the race my longest run was 18 miles, so that was my first time running 25 miles, and while my sore body is telling me I'm crazy I'm very glad I did it and finished!!!

Christmas 2012 Photos

My brother Lil' Man wanted an "ugly" Christmas sweater. Does your "ugly" Christmas sweater light up AND hold candy canes? I didn't think so. Well done brother.
